Case Study: Teleflex ISO 9001 Implementation

Client

Teleflex manufactures products and provides services for the automotive, marine, industrial, medical, and aerospace markets worldwide. Teleflex (Canada) Ltd. designs and manufactures mechanical and hydraulic steering systems and specialized heaters and stoves for military use.

Challenge

High growth had stretched resources to the limit. Andrew McFadyen, Director of Engineering, had been assigned the responsibility of achieving ISO 9001 registration within a year. This was an aggressive goal, given the additional demands on people’s time and the changes required in Teleflex’s culture.

Solution

JDQ had previously provided a successful, eight week, hands-on, problem solving training session to ESL-challenged Teleflex employees. JDQ was selected for this assignment for our project management skills, ISO 9001/QS-9000 experience, and credibility with Teleflex’ design engineers. JDQ provided:

• project management and advice on the integration of ISO 9001 requirements with the requirements of Teleflex's existing business processes,
• the setup and infrastructure for an intranet-based quality manual and document control system,
• quality procedure documentation, training and auditing assistance,
• advice on the requirements and selection of ISO9001 registrars.

Results

The new quality system was implemented and registered in nine months.
