Social Enterprise Dragons
3rd Annual Social Enterprise Dragons Event Another Success!
JDQ 3Spheres, Vancity and ENP would like to thank those who came out and supported the 2011 Social Enterprise Dragons business case competition event. It was a positive and exciting day, full of enormous learning value. This unique event brought together individuals, non-profit organizations, charities and like-minded businesses in the social enterprise community. It was a huge success. Everyone that attended was a winner!
The finalists for the competition were PEDAL (Pedal Energy Development Alternatives), SYJA (Street Youth Job Action) and JustRenos. Each gave excellent presentations showing how their social enterprises touch our communities on a daily basis and what unique challenges and possible opportunities they face. All social enterprises gave compelling speeches and the judges had a very hard time choosing the winners.
In the end, the expert panel decided that both PEDAL and SYJA would share the prize of the $15,000 grant from the Vancity Community Foundation and the 50 hours of pro-bono technical assistance from a JDQ 3Spheres Team to assist the social enterprises in developing their business processes with a focus on maximizing repeat business. JustRenos received a $2,500 grant from Enterprising Non-Profits to help develop public awareness for their company brand.

What is this LIVE Social Enterprise Business Case Competition?
Ever wonder what might happen if the dragons left their den and entered the realm of social enterprise? Welcome to a special business case contest where two social enterprises pitch their key challenges to a judge and jury of their peers. The social enterprises are judged as to which have the most synergistic opportunity in the spheres of helping, learning and profiting.
We believe that the best learning comes from immersing ourselves in the tangible experiences of those involved in social enterprise, and what better way to share tangible experiences than through the presentation of a business case, delivered by operating social enterprises, for a social enterprise audience.
The goal is to provide support to the successful social enterprise candidate, while creating enormous learning value for all of that viewed the presentations as well as those who are working to develop socially and environmentally progressive enterprises.
