SRK e-Document Control


SRK Consulting is an independent, international consulting practice. SRK provides focused advice and solutions to clients, mainly from earth and water resource industries. For mining projects, SRK offers services from exploration through feasibility, mine planning, and production to mine closure.


Andrew Barrett, President of SRK North America, needed to implement business process improvement objectives during a period of intense corporate activity.  Barrett realized that an intranet Business Management System would be required to form the structure, distribution and control process for SRK’s policies and procedures for:

  • Quality Management
  • Health and Safety
  • Human Resources, and
  • Finance and Administration

It was important that the new Business Management System be flexible, easy to use, scalable to global offices, and in compliance with ISO 9001:2000 quality management system requirements.


JDQ had been providing business process improvement consulting services to SRK in an effort to optimize processes for project document control, project acquisition and project execution.  JDQ was selected for this assignment for our understanding of Business Process Improvement and our reputation for delivering value-added advice to other Consulting Engineering firms. JDQ provided:

  • an innovative web-based document control system, based on the award winning Maestro CMS content management system web service, including customized document templates and website navigation,
  • advice on website structure, naming conventions, version control, and search capabilities,
  • secure, single logon, integration with SRK’s web portal,
  • quality procedure documentation assistance, and
  • ongoing Maestro CMS technical and upgrade support.


The turnkey implementation of a cost effective, secure and scalable Business Management System intranet during a period of significant corporate growth.

Andrew Barrett comments: “JDQ worked with our business process improvement team to develop and implement a portal-based document distribution and control system for our global business management system. The documentation and communication of corporate policies and procedures has been simplified.  We began with the intention of building an internal website to house the documented policies and procedures of better Quality Management System at the Vancouver office.  We soon realized, however, that we could leverage our investment in JDQ’s content management solution by using it to manage the documents for all our business systems at SRK offices through out North America.”
